Telehealth at the American Institute for Cognitive Therapy

The American Institute for Cognitive Therapy has been closely monitoring the Coronavirus/COVID-19 over the past few weeks and have made an effort to take the appropriate steps each day to ensure the health and well-being of our clients and staff based on the recommendations being made by public health authorities.

We welcome new clients who are interested in scheduling a consultation to attend virtually through Zoom.

Our clinicians are trained in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and also provide comprehensive dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT). Our DBT groups are continuing to meet weekly via Zoom. Our clinicians have immediate appointments available for anyone who may be struggling during this time. If you are interested in scheduling a consultation please call (212) 308-2440 to speak with our intake coordinator, Jacqui Shanley. Our intake coordinator can also be reached at intake@cognitivetherapynyc.com.

Information regarding cybersecurity with Zoom

The safety of our staff and clients are our number one priority. The American Institute for Cognitive Therapy is in a HIPAA business associate agreement (BAA) with Zoom. The contract protects personal health information in accordance with HIPAA guidelines. AICT follows guidelines outlined by Zoom and the FBI to mitigate hacking threats. We will continue to follow updated guidelines provided by Zoom and FBI as the public adjusts to virtual meetings.

More information about steps we take to protect your privacy and safety are outlined below.

  • Waiting Room feature enabled: Our Zoom teleconferences are not public. To enter a Zoom meeting with your psychologist you will need to be invited via a link to the meeting. After you click the link you will enter a virtual ‘waiting room’. At that point, you can only enter the teleconference when your therapist has admitted you into the meeting. This ensures that no one enters the teleconference who is not supposed to be there.
  • Meeting links are given only to clients: We do not share links to teleconferences publicly, such as on social media or with email lists. Links are provided directly to clients. This prevents the possibility of unrestricted access.
  • Screen Sharing disabled: We have disabled screen sharing for meeting guests. Screen Sharing is only enabled for the host, or psychologist running the therapy group, or individual session.
  • Screen recording disabled: For teleconferences with AICT, screen recording is disabled for all members including hosts and participants.
  • Most updated version of Zoom: In light of recent hijacking of teleconferences, Zoom has released updates to ensure the security of meetings. To read more about security updates from Zoom click here: https://support.zoom.us/hc/en-us/articles/201361963-New-Updates-for-macOS
